The aim of this project is to develop, and investigate the use of, data-driven methods for optimizing energy consumption in maritime transportation. The project is in collaboration with Cetasol, a start-up active in sustainability and was established by Volvo Penta and Qamcom Group. Cetasol has extensive knowledge of marine application and and is currently directing its efforts in industrializing AI-based system to reduce energy consumptions for commercial vessels. Potential research topics in this project includes: (i) incremental learning for energy optimization for less-frequent route; (ii) online transfer learning for energy efficient navigation using Contextual Information; (iii) opertion mode identification and path optimization for marine environment.
