This master's thesis project is dedicated to conducting a comprehensive security assessment of modern multi-processor System-on-Chips (MPSoCs) equipped with multiple thermal sensors. The primary objective is to evaluate the vulnerability of these MPSoCs to Hardware Trojans by leveraging the chip's thermal profile as a novel attack vector. The research endeavors to identify potential security risks, develop detection mechanisms, and propose countermeasures to safeguard the integrity and reliability of MPSoCs in the presence of thermal- based hardware Trojans.
Project Objectives: The primary objectives of this master's thesis are as follows:Security Evaluation: exploiting the chip's thermal profile.
1. Thermal Data Collection: Develop robust methodologies for collecting and analyzing thermal data from diverse components within MPSoCs to establish a comprehensive thermal profile.
2. Hardware Trojan Detection: Investigate machine learning techniques for detecting Hardware Trojans embedded within the chip ensuring the chip's integrity. The ML techniques help conduct an in-depth analysis of the security posture of modern MPSoCs with multiple thermal sensors, identifying potential vulnerabilities to Hardware Trojans.
3. Countermeasure Proposals: Propose effective countermeasures and mitigation strategies to enhance the resilience of MPSoCs against Hardware Trojans.
4. Performance and Reliability Impact: Assess the impact of security measures on the performance and reliability of MPSoCs, striving for a balance between security and functionality.
